Tullo Wind Farm Extension planning application submitted
The planning application for the extension of Tullo Wind Farm near Laurencekirk has been submitted to Aberdeenshire Council by Eneco.
Eneco submitted the planning application to the council after a consultation period with local residents and stakeholders. The extension will increase the generation capacity of Tullo Wind Farm to nearly 30MW, which will generate enough electricity to meet the annual energy needs equivalent to 15,000 average UK homes.
At the start of the consultation process, Eneco proposed extending the site by seven turbines. However, this was reduced to four following feedback from the local community, findings from the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and consultation with wider stakeholders such as Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH) and Historic Scotland.
The revised plans were then presented at two public exhibitions in September where local residents were invited to provide their views on the extension proposals and current scheme. The exhibitions also outlined the potential opportunities in the area as a result of the Tullo Wind Farm Extension. This includes a community fund of £2,500 per MW for each new turbine on the extension site, including one already consented turbine not already built, which will increase the fund from £17,000 to £48,250 annually. Eneco is also working with local land owners to improve habitat and public access on land around the site.
Daniel Badcock, Development Manager for Tullo Wind Farm, says “The planning application for the Tullo Wind Farm Extension shows that we have taken into account all of the views and opinions of local residents and stakeholders before developing and submitting the proposals to Aberdeenshire Council. The feedback from the public exhibitions we held in September was very positive with many believing that their comments from the consultation, in particular the June exhibition, had been taken on board.”
“We believe we have put forward the most suitable design for the extension, with the proposed turbine locations minimising visual change. Additionally, many local residents have commented on Tullo Wind Farm being an example of a good, well managed wind farm and we hope to continue this should we be granted planning permission for the extension site.”
